Instrumentation

The Laboratory of Thermal Turbomachines has at its disposal a wide range of instrumentation for measuring quantities related to gas turbine and turbomachinery operation.
The available Instruments can cover measurements such as:

  • Flow Measurements
    • Pressure (mean, unsteady)
    • Mean Velocity (magnitude and direction)
    • Unsteady Velocity, Turbulence
    • Temperature
  • Mechanical Measurements
    • Vibration (casing, shaft)
    • Acoustic pressure
    • Dimensional measurements

The correctness and the verification of the acquired data is guaranteed by appropriate Calibration of the instruments with the use of relevant equipment and protocols.

Also, LTT is equipped with specific technical instrumentation for specialized purposes and measurements. These are:

  • A 3-D LDA System, with fiber optics, comprising a 1D and 2D system, for simultaneous non intrusive three component velocity measurements
  • A Balancing Machine for rotors up to 50 kg
  • A Coordinate Measuring Machine for three dimensional measuring of objects of different shapes and forms.
  • A portable, complete and compact Emission Analyzer
  • A Free Jet Calibration Stand utilized for more detailed calibration of multihole probes and hot wire anemometers.
  • A Hammer Test Kit is used for defining eigen frequencies of machine parts either solely or assembled upon a machine.
  • A portable FFT Analyzer ideal for noise and vibration analysis but also for a variety of other applications.
  • A Laser Vibrometer for applications where it is impossible or undesirable to mount a vibration transducer onto a vibrating object.
